Barbara Steele Boyles passed away peacefully on November 20, 2018 in her home at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point, NC. She was 86 years old.

Barbara was born April 23, 1932, in High Point to the late Ila Davis Steele and Glenn Franklin Steele, both of High Point. She graduated from High Point Central High School in 1950, then attended Meredith College and NC Baptist Hospital School of Nursing before marrying J. Van Boyles, Jr. of High Point, in June 1952. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before Van passed away in July 2015.

Barbara devoted her life to being a loyal and supportive wife, loving mother and an exceptional homemaker. Having grown up in the Baptist faith, she faithfully attended church and helped start the first Sunday School class for the mentally impaired at Green Street Baptist Church. Barbara and Van later became members of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, where Barbara enjoyed helping to assemble the floral arrangements for Sunday morning worship services. Barbara was creative and talented, and those who knew her will always remember her passion for gardening, decorating, bridge and entertaining. She loved spending time reading, knitting or doing fine needlework – making beautiful creations for loved ones to cherish for generations to come. She also volunteered for many years with the hospital guild at High Point Hospital, knitting caps and booties for newborns in the nursery.

Barbara will be greatly missed for her generosity, her indomitable spirit, her courage and strength in adversity, her wisdom and penchant for storytelling, and her constant love, devotion, and kindness to all of her family and dear friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J. Van Boyles, Jr. and her brother, Kenneth Glenn Steele.

Barbara's family would like to thankfully and gratefully acknowledge the loving care and attention she constantly and consistently received from all staff members, caregivers, and concerned residents during the years she resided in Pennybyrn at Maryfield.

Floral arrangement may be sent to the family in care of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point, North Carolina.
