For Henry Nicholson

Funeral services for Henry Nicholson, 82, were held from the Miller Funeral home here Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Clarence Moore of New Virginia. Mr. Nicholson passed away Thursday.

Henry Nicholson, son of Thomas and Jane Nicholson, was born near New Castle, England, September 1, 1854, and passes away at his home on Osceola, Iowa, April 1, 1937, at the age of 82 years and 7 months. He came to America with his parents, two brothers and four sisters in 1870. Settled on a farm in Clarke county, near New Virginia, Iowa. He was married to Mary Fivecoat February 11, 1855. To this union were born five children, Mrs. James Schaffer of Creston, Iowa, Harry, who is living in the old home and Mrs. Chest Benbow, also near there, and Elwood and Belle who passed away in 1911. Three years later, May 10, 1914, he was bereft of his loving wife. He continued living on the farm with his son Harry and family until he was married to Mrs. Martha Wickett, then taking his aged mother he moved to New Virginia. In a short time he was again bereft of a companion. Later on he was again married to Mrs. Jennie Blackburn. They continued living at New Virginia until after the death of his mother. They moved to Indianola for a short time, then to Osceola where he was living at the time of his death. He was a man of honest and upright character, loved and respected by all. A loving husband and father and also a loving son, as he tenderly cared for his parents throughout their lives, his father living to the age of 84 years and his mother to the age of 97. Besides his wife and three children he leaves to mourn their loss two sister, Mrs. Wm. McCartney of Hannah City, Ill., and Mrs. Seth Hootman of Woodburn, Iowa; two brothers, Tom of Norborne, Missouri and Jack of New Virginia, Iowa; six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A few years ago he was baptized and received into the membership of the New Virginia M. E. church, of which church he was a member until the time of his death.

Funeral services were held from the Miller Funeral Home in Osceola, in charge of Rev. Moore of the Methodist church of New Virginia, of which he was a member. Interment was made in the family lot at New Virginia by the side of his first wife.
