Floyd (Sonny) Benton was one of two children of Clyde Hayes Benton and Viola (Pokey) Hennington Benton. He was born on May 17,1943. He received his angel wings on August 12, 2021. He passed peacefully holding the hand of his beloved wife, Caryl, and listening to a favorite song by the Everly Brothers, Bye Bye Love.

Sonny graduated high school from Dell City High School, Dell City, Texas, in 1961. He immediately enlisted in the Air Force. He was off to basic training and served his country for 22 years, retiring in 1983. He served two tours in Vietnam. After returning back to the U.S., he went to Physician Assistant (PA) training. He was so caring and compassionate to his patients, always there for people. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.

After retirement, from the Air Force, Sonny & Caryl lived in Robert Lee, Texas, and operated a clinic in Sterling City, a nearby neighboring country town. He was always there for anyone who needed him. When they retired from the clinic, they bought a large RV and planned to travel the USA. They got to Elephant Butte, New Mexico, and liked it so well, they just made it their home. Even while living in the RV park, if anyone needed him, he was always there to take care of them. Everyone, everywhere adored him. He was the kind of person that loved people and was always ready to help. He knew more about medicine than lots of MD's. He saved the lives of many people.

Upon arrival in Elephant Butte, there was a PA there who worshipped Sonny. He was also in the AF and stated that Sonny paved the way for him and all others PA's that came after him. Sonny was in the third PA class in Texas. His registration number from the State of Texas was 00038 making him the 38th PA registered in the state of Texas.

During Sonny's life, he was also a musician, playing guitar and bass guitar. He had the pleasure of being friends with Buddy Holly and also got to hang around with Willie Nelson and many other well-known musicians.

Sonny and Caryl were parents to three children.

He was preceded in death by his son Romey Benton and his parents, Clyde Benton and Viola Bynum. He is survived by his wife, Caryl, and two children, six grandchildren four great-grandchildren with the fifth on the way.

Sonny was cremated and will eventually be buried in the grave of his mother in the Alma Cemeter in Alma, New Mexico.
