Charles Price "Charlie" Atkins, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va.

Charlie P. Atkins – Holeee Cow! What do you say about Charlie? He absolutely adored his wife of 63 years, Peggy – and longed for the day they'd be together again. Work was what he was proud of, working with VDOT for almost 40 years; gardening professionally some would say, cutting tobacco and mowing. When he wasn't working, he would be hugging on the ones who called him Papaw. Charlie was a wonderful fan of MSHS and Virginia Tech football. He loved watching and listening to the games. In the end, Charlie was one day late to celebrate his wedding anniversary with Peggy, but today they'll spend forever loving each other in Heaven. A friend to everybody, what a hope and promise Charlie saw come true Tuesday morning.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Blevins Atkins; infant son, Charles William Atkins; parents, Charles Paul and Nannie Itura Atkins; and twin sister, Leala Porter.

Charlie is survived by his daughters, Julia Anne Atkins Testerman and husband, John, and Peggy Sue Marchant and husband, Mike "Heavy", all of Atkins, Va.; Tommy Atkins and wife, Holly of Wytheville, Va.; six grandchildren, Stacie Lester and husband, Lonzo, of Hansonville, Va., Brandon Smith and wife, Stephanie, of Wytheville, Va., Jonathon Testerman and Elizabeth Manus of Hilton Head, S.C., Jessica Atkins Cornett and husband, Adam, of Wytheville, Va., Heather Nicole Marchant of Norton, Va., and Brandon Marchant and wife, Brandi, of Northern Va.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 21, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Va.
