Mrs. Carson was a charter member of the Stonewall Jackson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a member and first Regent for the Halifax Convention Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Mayflower Society, and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Carson graduated from Charlotte Female Institute, now Queens University, and at the time of her death was the oldest living alumna in NC.
