Greencastle - Henry D. "Hank" Barthalow, age 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 13, 2022.
Born August 23, 1942 in Burnt Cabins, PA, was the son of the late John J. and Stella M. (Clark) Barthalow.
Hank was a 1960 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, PA. He worked as an engineer at Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, PA from 1973 to 2004, where he held multiple patents in the company's large crane division. Prior to his retirement, he was ordained and became pastor of the Locust Level Full Gospel Church, Greencastle, until his death.
Hank enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He fed deer and other wildlife on his property. His family was very important to him. He loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. Hank was an avid bowler rolling three perfect games in his lifetime. He was an active member of his high school class reunion committee. He was the ultimate DIY guy. There was not a mechanical issue he could not fix, and he loved to help others with his gift.
Hank was a member of Buchanan Hunt Club, both the Mercersburg and Greencastle Sportsmen's Associations, and the Grove Gray Group.
Surviving family include his wife, Alverna M. (Moreland) Barthalow, whom he married April 17, 1960. Four children, Dave (Lorna) Barthalow of Chambersburg, PA, Donald (Sue) Barthalow, Dennis Barthalow and KD Barthalow all of Greencastle. Seven grandchildren, Jessica, Steven, Travis, Emily, Alisha, Tiffany, and Zachary. Three great grandchildren, James, Jude, and Wyatt. Six siblings, Josephine Seville, Louise Carbaugh, Helen Barnhart, Anna (Lester) Hockley, Frank (Donna) Barthalow, and Melvin Barthalow. Hank was preceded in death by six siblings, Dolores Zinn, and Wilson, John, Audie, Roy, and Nathan Barthalow.
Funeral service 2 PM Friday January 21, 2022, in Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg, with Pastor Floyd E. Myers officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Viewing 6 to 8 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home.
