When Margaret Alice Barnes was born in August 1921 in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, her father, John William Barnes, was 44, and her mother, Lavina Mary "Laura" (Muller) Barnes, was 37. She had five brothers and six sisters. She died on January 31, 1922, in Asher, Oklahoma, at 5 months of age, in the arms of her grandmother Mrs. Cryer.

Died - After an illness of about two weeks baby Margaret Alice, 5 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Barnes, died Tuesday morning shortly after 8:00 o'clock. The baby had been very sick but was believed to be slightly improved when almost without warning of a change for the worse, the little life went out while held in it's grandmother, Mrs. Cryer's arms. The children had gone to school happy in believing the little one was better. The funeral service was held at the Wanette cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Reverend Clough officiating at the burial.
