C. GAMBLE DIED TUESDAY AT PARIS, TEXAS
Was One of Most Prominent Citizens Of McCurtain Co.

C. Gamble, of Clear Lake, who has been in the Sanitarium of Paris for the greater part of the time since the first of the year, died there Tuesday afternoon about five o'clock from pneumonia, which was contracted about ten days ago. He had undergone several major operations during the early part of the year, but had made no appreciable gain in health.

Mr. Gamble was one of the most prominent citizens of McCurtain county, and was one of the best men in this section of the state. He resided at Garvin for many years, and was president of the Farmers State Bank at Garvin while that institution was in operation. He was engaged in farming in an extensive way for many years, and has taken a great deal of interest in the development of this section of the state.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie, a son, Orville in Oregon, and a daughter, Mrs. Witt, who is teaching school at Battiest.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed as the Gazette goes to press, but will be under the direction of Chappell Funeral Home.

FUNERAL FOR C. GAMBLE HELD FRIDAY A. M.
Remains Were Laid To Rest In Denison Cemetery

Funeral services for C. Gamble, who passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Sanitarium of Paris, Texas, where he had been a patient for several months following a major operation, were held at the First Baptist Church in Idabel, Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. W. R. Merry officiated. He was assisted by Rev. R. C. Holcomb and J. B. Kirk. Burial was in Denison cemetery under direction of Chappell funeral home.

A large number of friends and relatives were present to pay their ladt tribute of love and respect. The floral offerings were very beautiful.

A choir composed of Mrs. Tom Finney, Mrs. W. E. Mendenhall, Mrs. Pat Lawson, Mrs. Guy Old, Pat Lawson, Herbert Flowers, C. E. Bollinger and R. F. Haizlip accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Mamie Finney, sang, "The Old Rugged Cross", "Lead Kindly Light", and "Does Jesus Care".

Active pallbearers were I. W. Lacy, S. B. Helms, G. L. Kirk, Sr., J. B. Goolsby, H. Gibson and Guy Old.

Mr. Gamble was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years and was a Mason. He had lived in McCurtain county for the past twenty-nine years, and had proven himself to be one of the most useful citizens of the county.

Mr. Gamble was born in Benton County, Ark., in 1869, and was married to Miss Carrie Nichols in 1905. He removed to McCurtain county in 1906, and located at Garvin. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gamble after they located at Garvin, one of whom died at the age of six months, and the other is Mrs. Max O. Witt, of Mt. Ida, Ark. A son, Orville Gamble, by a former marriage, lives at Portland, Oregon, and was unable ro attend the funeral. Besides the son and daughter, he is survived by his wife.

Mr. Gamble organized banks in Haworth, Idabel, Garvin and Hugo, and had a chain of stores along the Kansas City Southern railroad. He was one of the early organizers of chain stores. He was the first man in this section to grow potatoes successfully in this section for commercial purposes, and grew the first green beans for market. He grew prize corn, cotton and Duroc Jersey hogs.

Mr. Gamble moved to his farm on Clear Lake about six years ago and has engaged in diversfied farming since.
