William Abernethy, formerly of II Cottage Ave.. Plains, died Thursday afternoon in Summit Nursing Home. Laurel Run. where he was a guest the past 19 months. Born in White Haven. England, he came to America in 1928 settling in Askem, later residing in Wilkes-Barre and Plains. He was employed by Glen Alden Coal Company and most recently by the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Department. Harrisburg. for 17 years prior to his retirement. Mr Abernethy was a member of Askam United Methodist Church. Surviving are children. William, Cherry Hill. N.J.; John. Edward, and Doris Abernethy. all of Cumbria. England; sister. Mrs. Mary Hetherington, London, England: stepson, Robert Randall. Albany, N.Y.: granddaughter. Mrs. Carol Malig, Dallas, with whom he previously resided.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Monday at II from Corcoran Funeral Home. 20 S. Main St.. Plains, with Rev. Richard Thomas of Pittsburgh officiating. Interment, Mt. Greenwood Cemetery. Trucksville. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
