Howard Lee Webber, son of Herman Bernard and Gertrude Belle (nee Parks) Webber, was born November 23, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri. On January 17, 1937, he was baptized at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Missouri where he attended its parochial school and confirmed his faith April 2, 1950. In 1954, he graduated from Roosevelt High School.
On March 10, 1956, he married Lillian Ruth Shoemake with whom he was privileged to enjoy 57 years in the nuptial estate until her passing March 15, 2013. To this union were born four children: Steven Webber, Jeffrey (Lory) Webber, Sheree (Michael) Grelle and Gregory Webber. They survive together with eight grandchildren: Lauren, Alex, Andrew, Matthew, Taylor, Ashley, Ryan and Meghan, as well as the great-grandchildren; Lilliana and Harper. Howard is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Helen (Timothy) O'Brien and Ellen (Thomas) Dickerman, alongside other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters (Robert) Doris Faser and (Richard) Erna Beijan.
Early in his career, Howard was an employee at Mercantile Bank and then at Boatman's Bank until joining Newhard, Cook & Company where he remained for 39 years. While there he was its systems analyst and served as Vice President of the department in charge of its computer programming. With Newhard, Cook & Company's closing in 2000, Howard transferred to Enterprise Leasing where he engaged in similar systems analysis until 2005. He then briefly worked in a like capacity with Eveready Battery until retirement at age 70 in 2006.
As a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a patriotic American, Howard will be remembered also as a devout and conscientious Christian man. He daily read the Bible in the care of his soul and physically he exercised daily for the care of his body. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoyed running, golfing and tennis, and remained an "hour every-other-day" swimmer until recent hospitalization. He and Lillian became Peace members in 1962, where their affiliation remained until their passing.
Relatively good health was experienced by Howard until the advances of age required cardiac valve replacement, a pacemaker, and medication to address eventual congestive heart failure.
On Friday, January 7, Howard was admitted to Mercy Medical Center where on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 he underwent intestinal surgery. His surgical recovery afterwards unfortunately did not rally. It resulted in his passing there at 8:17 p.m. that evening. He attained the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 18 days.
Services: Visitation at Peace Lutheran Church, Saturday, January 15, 8:30 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery.
