aka Andrew L. Lochman

The son of Frederick & Christina (Leinert) Laughman, he may also have been the stepson of Christina Leinert Laughman, although parentage is unclear. He married Elizabeth Ann Ladom/Laden/Laydon (all reported) and fathered Barbara Ellen Powers (b. 08/10/58 - married a Coulson), Mary Ann Cevilla (b. 09/14/59 - married a Heiner), John H. (b. 03/27/65), and Emanuel (b. 11/19/68). In 1860, he was a laborer living with his family in Hamilton Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 15 as a private with Co. E, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863. He is in the company register as "Andrew L. Lochman," but the reason for his use of an alias is unknown. According to his obituary in the York Dispatch, he "fought under Gen. Meade in the battle of Gettysburg," a false claim given that the 165th Pennsylvania was nowhere near Gettysburg during the time of that battle.

By 1870, he was living in Straban Township, Adams County, in 1880, in Paradise Township, York County, and died at his home in adjacent Jackson Township at the reported age of 82-9-18, the cause listed as a "cerebral hemorrhage" with "uremia" a contributing factor. The above-mentioned obituary identifies him as "Henry L. Lauchman," but his pension index reflects both that name and the alias shown above.
