Native American Activist and Co-founder of the American Indian Movement. Clyde Howard Bellecourt was an Anishinabe (Chippewa, Ojibwa) born in White Earth, Minnesota. In 1968 he, Dennis Banks, George Mitchell, and Eddie Benton-Banai founded the American Indian Movement (AIM) In Minneapolis, Minnesota. The founding of AIM began the Red Power Movement in the United States. His activism continued throughout his life. Clyde Bellecourt was the seventh of 12 children born to his parents Charles and Angeline Bellecourt. His Anishinabe name is Nee-gon-we-way-we-dun, which means "Thunder Before the Storm."
