George Alvin Howell, 81, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, walked thru Heaven's gates into the arms of his Lord and Savior Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022.

George was born Feb. 7, 1940, to Cora (John) Shamblin Gallamore, in Williamsville, Missouri. He was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School class of 1958, and proudly served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963. George retired in 1996 as an Environmental Specialist from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. After hearing a higher calling, he began his ministry as a Pastor in 1972 and retired in 2021. During that time George pastored numerous churches around Southeast Missouri. In 2015 he earned a master's degree in Theology from Southern Indiana Baptist University.

On Sept. 6, 1960, George married Alma Shelton in Poplar Bluff. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, David (Tammie)Howell; a daughter Denise (Greg) Morgan; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Lloyd) Miller, Erica Wright, Corey Morgan, Elizabeth (Christopher) Roberson, Sarah (David) Wilson, Nathan Howell, and Kathryn Howell; and seven great-grandchildren, Gracie Miller, Alivia Miller, Aliyah Miller, Chloe Miller, Madelyn Roberson, James Roberson, and Cyrus Wilson.

George was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Debbie Wright.

The funeral service will begin at 10:00 am Thursday at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, with Dr. Steve Proctor officiating. Burial, with full military honors will follow at 12:00 pm at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri. Face mask will be required for all that attend.
