Lartah Knight Stanberry was a descendant of U. S. Revolutionary War Private George P. Campbell of North Carolina. She married Recompense Stanbery in Dallas, Texas. They had no children. While living in Fort Worth, Texas, she joined NSDAR 27 January 1898 and was a Charter Member of the Mary Isham Keith Chapter NSDAR when it organized June 15,1898 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. While living in Fort Worth, she taught in the Fort Worth public schools and later worked as a society editor on a Fort Worth newspaper. In 1907, she moved to New York where she was a feature writer for several newspapers. She was listed in the 1910 census as a widow living in Manhattan. She also lived and worked as an educator in Puerto Rico and Arizona. She died August 13,1940 in Los Angeles California and, according to her death certificate was cremated on 17 August 1940 at Westwood Memorial Park, Los Angeles, California. [Source: J. Evetts]
