MERLE M. BROSIUS, 83, of Clarion RD 1, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in Clarion Hospital. Born May 18, 1915, in Ohl, he was a son of John Brosius and Alda Reitz Brosius. Mr. Brosius worked at Knox Glass, Owens Illinois, and K & F Motors car dealership, where he was a Ford parts manager. He was the owner and operator of Clarion Equipment from 1954 to 1993. He served as Clarion County treasurer from 1964 to 1968, Republican Committee chairman, founder of H&R Block offices in Clarion and New Bethlehem and a real estate agent with Gates & Burns Realty. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion and also attended St. Marks in Ashland Township. Mr. Brosius belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose, Lions Club of Clarion, Murphy Grange, Odd Fellows of Clarion, Clarion County Anti-Horse Thieves, Clarion Elks Club, Republican National Committee and Pennsylvania Realtors Association. He was a charter member of the Clarion County YMCA and the second president of the Clarion Owens Illinois Federal Credit Union. He was married in 1936 to Effie L. BEST, who preceded him in death in 1987. Surviving are two sons, M. Gene Brosius of Jonesboro GA, and William Brosius of Clarion; one daughter, Carol Porter of Clarion; four brothers, Kermit Brosius of Leeper RD, Kenneth Brosius of Knox RD, Charles Brosius of Corsica RD and Earl Brosius of Knox RD; one sister, Kathryn Silvis of Shippenville RD 2; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a companion, Helen McHenry of Clarion. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents and wife, were one daughter, Margaret Brosius; one son, Tommy Brosius; one brother, James Brosius; and one sister, Erma Jean. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Goble Funeral Home, Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Madge Floyd and the Rev. Bill LaVelleco officiating. Interment will be in Clarion Cemetery.
