A service was planned for March 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Roscommon, with Fr. Anthony Citro officiating. Interment was to be in the Gerrish Township Cemetery Columbarium. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, handled arrangements.
Mrs. Baka was born in Hamtramck Jan. 11, 1929, to Peter and Mary (Darmofal) Mazurczyk. She and Edward A. Baka were united in marriage Oct. 7, 1950, in Detroit. Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 3, 2003. She had spent her summers at Higgins Lake since 1979 and moved there permanently in 1992 after having lived six years in Macomb Township and many years before that in Detroit.
Mrs. Baka was a retired administrator for the City of Detroit Model City Program. She attended St. Michael Catholic Church and was a past member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Detroit, where she was a parish council member of the organizing committee for the East Side Homeowners Association. She was founder of St. Hyacinth Senior Citizens Group and was formerly involved with her husband's Cub Scout activities. She was founder and "Queen Mom" of the Ritzy Red Hatters of Roscommon.
Mrs. Baka enjoyed crafting of all kinds and decorating for holidays and church events.
Also predeceased were her son, Tommy; and sisters, Virginia Marquette and Betty Ambrose.
Surviving Mrs. Baka are her son, Ron and his wife Mary Baka of New Baltimore; granddaughter, Tiffany Baka of New Baltimore; sister, Martha and her husband Don Nofz of Washington; brother-in-law, George Ambrose of Fairfield Glade, TN; three sisters-in-law, Helen and her husband Bernie Wirzbicki of Berkley, Irene Nowak of St. Clair Shores and Genevieve and her husband Jack Nawrocki of Detroit; many nieces and nephews; and special buddy, Yorkie Elfie.
