John A Bove, 92, of 29 Welch Ave., Bradford, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2018) at The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 15, 1926, in Bradford, he was a son of the late George and Frances Nuzzo Bove.
John married Patricia Ann Johnson Bove, who died March 30, 2014.
John attended Bradford Area Schools and at the young age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged May 1, 1945.
He worked at John Monago's Floor and Wall Coverings in high school and after the Navy. He operated Bove's New Stand for several years and returned to work for Monago's from where he retired.
Mr. Bove was a member of St. Bernard Church, and a former member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge.
John loved all sports and his Penn State football.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Ann Bove of Bradford; four grandchildren, Cassandra Winter, Jacqueline Horton, Jennifer Therrien and Nicholas McNeil; four great-grandchildren, Joseph Horton, Layla Horton, Charles Hollock and Theodore Winter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, James and George Bove; and three sisters, Mary Louise Bove, Elizabeth Wozniak and Frances Sweeney.
Family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 372 E. Main St., where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Church with the Rev Raymond Gramata, pastor, as Celebrant. Full military honors will be accorded by members of the United States Navy and members of the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 108, in St. Bernard Cemetery.
