John Wilburn (Webb) Dunford, 86, of North Tazewell, Va., formerly of Bishop, Va., departed this life at home on December 25, 2007.
He was born September 6, 1921 on Whittaker Ridge near Bandy, Va., and was the son of the late Frank and Nancy Barnette Dunford, both former Tazewell County natives. He attended Calvary Assembly Church in Baptist Valley, Va. He was a coal miner for 35 years and was a member of Local No. 6025 of Bishop, Va. He was a hard worker, he loved gardening, and spending time with people. He was especially fond of his dog, "Snap."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, George, Burley, Bill, and Mose Dunford; sisters, Becky Dunford, Martha Dunford Baldwin, and Polly Dunford Matney; grandson, Brian Allen Dunford; and his former wife, Lissie Belle Brewster Dunford.
Survivors are son, Larry Allen Dunford and wife, Thelma Louise of North Tazewell, Va.; Granddaughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Holbrook and husband, Reggie of North Tazewell, Va.; great-granddaughter, Sierra McKayla (Callie) Brown. He also had a special family which he loved and adored: Stella Neal of North Tazewell, Va.; special children; Harold, Connie, and Mark Neal; and Irene, Jackie, Kristy, and Stacey Adkins, and Kathy Neal, all of North Tazewell, Va.; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends also survive.
Funeral services for John Dunford will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2007 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with the Rev. Roy Smith and Avery Lynch officiating. Interment will follow in Whittaker Ridge Family Cemetery on Whittaker Ridge near Bandy, Va.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
