Mr. George E. Mabie Sr., 76, of Gloversville, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home. Mr. Mabie was born October 12, 1929 in Medusa, N.Y., the son of the late Clarence and Lettie Hadsell Mabie. He had been self-employed as a dairy farmer much of his life and also had been employed at Beech Nut in Canajoharie for 13 years. and for the Sperry Corp. as a circuit board maker while living in Utah from 1979 to 2004. George was an Army veteran of WW II and a member of the American Legion Post No. 222. He is survived by his wife, Clara Orlosky Mabie of Gloversville, whom he married August 10, 1974; his children, George E. Mabie Jr., Clarence H. Mabie and Diana Mabie, all of Gloversville, Linda Rivenburg of Berne, N.Y. and Bonnie Peeler of S. Corkwright, N.Y. He is also survived by siblings, Leslie Chase of Ft. Plain, Dora Mae Humphrey of Speculator, Loretta Williams of Ft. Plain, Ella Davis of Glen and his stepsisters, Marian Bruce of Cobleskill, Hilda Graham of Amsterdam, Vida Pitt of Medusa and Dorothy Palmer. Additional survivors include several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Leslie H. Mabie; a brother, Clarence Mabie; a sister, Inez Rivenburg and a stepsister, Katherine Kern. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Rockwood Cemetery.
