Funeral Mass will be Thurs., Dec. 27, for Jim Maroon, 87, Madison, who died on Dec. 22, 2007, at Golden Living Center. The Rev. Robert Vinslauski will officiate in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Maroon was born on Feb. 8, 1920, at Winfred to John and Mary (Assia) Maroon. He grew up in Winfred, where he graduated from high school.

He married Doris Dent on May 2, 1942, at Pierre. He was the first South Dakota driver's license examiner for eastern South Dakota before he joined the Madison Police Force. He retired with the rank of captain from the Madison Police Department in 1984 after serving 25 years. He was a member of the state and national Fraternal Order of Police.

They lived in Far, Texas, during the winters.

Survivors include two sons, Jon (Marcia) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeff (Kim) of Sioux Falls; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Adel Maroon of Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; his wife, Doris in 2002; and a grandson.
