Laurie Jean Bateman, 68, of Hugo, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2017. She was born on May 29, 1948, to Joseph and Helen (Tieff) Jiorle in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Laurie was one of four children and grew up in New Jersey. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1966. She attended college at Monmouth University before eventually moving to Colorado. She served as a clerk for the State of Colorado Judicial Branch at the Lincoln County Courthouse for over 20 years. Laurie met the love of her life, Steve Bateman, while he was working as an electrician on the new courthouse in Hugo. They married on September 25, 1993, in Alamosa, Colorado. She enjoyed going hiking with Steve, gardening, and caring for her beloved horse. Laurie was also a very active member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hugo. She was a kind, caring woman who loved to spend time with her family, and she will be greatly missed. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Jiorle. She is survived by her loving husband Steve Bateman, her brother Neil (Leisel) Jiorle, and sisters Joellyn Meehan and Leslie (Robert) Long, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
