Last Saturday morning occurred the death of one of Manson's earliest settlers, Joseph Malden. He had not been well for several years and he and his wife had all plans made to go to Florida on Tuesday to spend the remainder of the winter. Mr. Malden was born near Norfolk, Va., and when he grew to manhood moved to Manson, where he became agent in the Illinois Central [railroad] station. Afterward he went into the lumber and coal business, in which he remained until he retired from business. His five sons, Eugene, Claude, Earl, Lloyd and Lyle and his wife survive. The sons were all here for the funeral which was held last Tuesday afternoon from the house. The burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
