Dr Helen Czenkusch, 96, of Indianapolis passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at
Westside Village Healthcare.

She was born August 3, 1925 in North Liberty, Indiana to the late Leo Geyer and Claire
(Place) Geyer. She married Leonard Roy Czenkusch on December 10, 1950 in South
Bend, Indiana. Leonard preceded her in death on July 14, 2012.

Helen always knew she would be a doctor and take care of children. She attended IU
earning an AB degree in 1946 and continued to IU School of Medicine where she
graduated in 1949. She was a 1st year resident at Children's Memorial Hospital in
Chicago before she moved to Indianapolis to complete her residency at Riley Hospital in 1952. She was in private practice in Speedway until she retired in 1992. She continued to work for the Marion County Health Dept in their well-child clinics after she retired.

Helen paved the way for many future generations of women. She was the first female
President of the Marion County Medical Society from 1982-1983. She received a
Certificate of Distinction for 50 years in the practice of Medicine, the Bowen
distinguished leadership award, a recipient of the Mayor Hudnut Award (Community
Safety Award) and the prestigious J.O. Ritchey Emeriti Faculty Service Award.
She was a lifelong fan of the Indy 500 and first attended in 1951 as a stand-by physician. She was a ticket holder for over 50 years and never missed a race. Helen was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Speedway, Indiana. She also belonged to the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and the Hulman Memorial Way Foundation. She was passionate about her family, her community, and a good Manhattan.

Helen is survived by her sons: Jim Czenkusch (Jan) of Round Rock, TX; Bob Czenkusch
(April) of Indianapolis, IN; John Czenkusch (Toni) of Indianapolis, IN; Dave Czenkusch
(Nancy) of Loveland, CO and 6 grandchildren.
