Dorothy Mercer passed away on the afternoon December 28, 2021, at the age of 88; after battling the effects of Alzheimer's disease for several years. Dorothy spent the last few years of her life in Provo Utah; however, she and her husband Charles were long-time residents of Simi Valley, California.
Dorothy was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho. While still an infant, her family moved to Montana where Dorothy was raised. After graduating from High School, Dorothy moved to Provo, Utah where she met and married her sweetheart Charles in 1955. Early in their marriage, Charles' career gave them and their family the enjoyable and rewarding experience of living in many locations in the United States. In 1970, they settled permanently in Southern California where they maintained a home for over 45 years.
Dorothy developed a reputation for her artistic abilities. Her original paintings are found in private collections across the country. Many of her former students fondly recall the hours spent attending the art classes she taught throughout the years.
Dorothy was known for her strong and durable testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. She was always willing and eager to serve in assignments and callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; especially in the Primary and Relief Society organizations. Charles and Dorothy served together as full-time missionaries in the Dublin, Ireland Mission and (a few years later) the Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission. They also served together as ordinance workers in the Los Angeles Temple.
