Steven "Steve" Dean Atwood
June 21, 1951 - December 20, 2021 (age 70)

Steven "Steve" Dean Atwood, born to Arthur and Elaine Atwood on June 21, 1951, in American Fork, Utah, passed away December 20, 2021, after a month-long struggle with multiple medical issues at the U of U Hospital.

He grew up with his parents, his sister, and two brothers in Utah county, mainly the Lindon/Pleasant Grove area. After graduating from Pleasant Grove High School, he served his county in the U.S Navy aboard the U.S.S. Inchon from 1971 to 1975 during the Vietnam war. After his tour in the Navy, he came home and met the love of his life, Cheryl Diane Hardman. They were married in the Provo Temple on April 6, 1977. They raised three children: Clint, Brett, and Teresa. While living in Utah county and raising his family, he worked many jobs, including as a welder, carpenter, and a metal salvager with his father. In 1990 he and his family moved to Tooele, and he returned to government service as a security guard for Tooele Army Depot and later Deseret Chemical Ordinance Depot, he worked there for 21 years and retired in 2011. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, Matthew and Andrew. He also loved watching old westerns and old Sci-fi/monster movies. Steve was loved by many, family and friends, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his two sons, Clint and Brett; his daughter Teresa; a son-in-law, Milo Perkins; and two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew (All from Tooele County). He is also survived by his two brothers; Lee (Elva) Atwood, and Kay (Connie) Atwood; a close cousin Dale Cutler; and a long-time childhood friend, Clint Aston. He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Cheryl, his parents, Arthur and Elaine Atwood, and his sister, Patsy (Pat) Baker.

We would like to express our great appreciation for all the doctors, nursing staff, and other staff at the U of U Hospital for their tireless and compassionate effort in his treatment.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the LDS church at 1025 W. Utah Ave. There will be a graveside service on April 6, 2022 where Steve will be laid to rest with his wife Cheryl on their 45th wedding anniversary, family and friends are welcome to join. www.tatemortuary.com
