Leo Allen "Cotton" Gilmore, 89, of Dundee, Texas passed away on December 24, 2021.
Leo was born on October 20, 1932 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Guy and Beth (Sissom) Gilmore. His life-long home was in Dundee, Texas. He graduated from Holliday High School in 1951. He was a good athlete in school, particularly in football and basketball, and was named captain of the Holliday Eagles football team his senior year. In 1953, he married high school sweetheart and love of his life, Jo Ann Noles. Leo served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge from the service, he partnered with his father-in-law, G.D. Noles, farming and ranching in Archer County. He started his work in the oil field as a pumper for Hunter Brothers. By years of hard work and perseverance, Leo was able to buy farm/ranch land and oil leases, and founded the Leo Gilmore Oil (LGO) Co. After Jo Ann passed away, he married Marge Crenshaw in 1996.
Leo spent his life as a farmer, rancher, and oilman. He was happiest at his home in Dundee or out on his land in Archer County. He was kind-hearted and always willing to help anyone who needed it. He set an example to his family of honest hard work and quiet strength.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Sam Gilmore; his wife of 41 years, Jo Ann; and his wife Marge.
He is survived by his sons, Allen of Wichita Falls, Bob and wife Gail of Lakeside City, and Guy and wife Ginger of Wichita Falls; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
