David Emanuel Houser was born in the Yadkin River Country near Winston Salem, NC. David is the son of Alexander Hauser and Henrietta G/C McBride Hauser. His last name was spelled "HAUSER" but he changed it when he moved his family from Missouri to Texas between 1880 and 1890. All but two of his children were born in Missouri and changed their last name spelling too. The two youngest children were born in Texas as "HOUSERS".
David E. married Rachel Amanda Venable on 7 Jun 1869 in Johnson Co., Tennessee,during a brief period in which the Hauser's lived in Tennessee. They were the parents of nine children; Susan Elizabeth, Margarete Josephene, John Edward (Aka James), Nancy Ellen, Laura Bell, Henry Clay, Robert Lee, Fannie Maud, and John Wesley.

David had red hair and a red beard. He was named for his uncle Emanuel Hauser. David and Rachel moved to Texas in the late 1880's, settling outside Gatesville in Coryell County. David was a member of the Masons.
