Esther Gibble Becker, 97, of Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, formerly of Manheim, died Monday after a brief illness at the Essa Flory Hospice Center. Mrs. Becker volunteered as a nurse's aide at Brethren Village for 25 years. She returned to volunteering at the home when she became a resident there. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels of Manheim and the former Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital Auxiliary. A homemaker for most of her life, she also was a seamstress for the former Brubaker's Dry Cleaning, Manheim. Mrs. Becker was a member of the women's fellowship of East Fairview Church of the Brethren, Manheim. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and flower and vegetable gardening. Born in Penn Township, she was the daughter of the late Lane and Agnes Gibble Forney. Her husband, John H. Becker, died in 1985. Her first husband, Homer Z. Gibble died in 1946. She is survived by a son, Cletus L., husband of Nancy Shank Gibble of Manheim; a daughter, Joanne F., wife of Carl M. Stauffer of Manheim; a stepdaughter, Mary E., wife of Clyde C. Greiner of Manheim; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and a brother, Lincoln G. Forney of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Benjamin and Galen Forney; and five sisters, Nettie G. Cassel, Mabel Bollinger, Nora Lutz, Marie Kline Stauffer and Emma Bollinger.
