Doris Arthur age 84 of Witten, SD passed away Monday December 17, 1007 at the Winner Regional Health Care Long Term Care Facility.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner. Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery.

Visitation began on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.

Doris Lucille (Earll) Arthur, age 84, of Witten, SD entered immortality Monday, December 17, 2007.

Doris was born July 29, 1923 at rural Witten, SD to Floyd and Minnie (Odin) Earll. Except for short times, she was a life-long resident of Witten, SD and proud of her hometown. She attended rural grade schools west of Witten and high school at Witten High School. As the Great Depression closed in she was needed to assist the family and was unable to continue after the 11th grade.

Doris, the youngest of seven children, courageously chauffeured her parents to Denver to visit their son "Jack" who was recovering from be wounded in France during WWII. They also made trips to Omaha to visit her only sister and her three children and assisted with raising them into their adult years. Kaylyn, Keith and Pat Kennedy were Doris's early children.

On September 14, 1946 Doris married John Arthur in Witten, South Dakota. They lived and farmed in the Witten area for four years, moving into Witten where John became manager of the Farmer's Union GTA Elevator and Doris continued as a homemaker & custodian. They continued farming together until a late "retirement".

Doris and Johnny's pastimes included dancing and playing cards, but family and extended family activities were their source of recreation and enjoyment and they were avid and proud supporters.

Born and baptized into the Swedish-Lutheran faith, Doris later joined Johnny as a Catholic and remained a life-long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Witten, later transferring to Immaculate Conception in Winner after the closing of the parish in Witten.

Doris and John gave birth to four children and life to many others. She is survived by four children; Lonnie Laurie) Arthur, Janet (Mike) Sporrer, Jackie (Judy) Arthur, and Amy (Dean) Engel, grandchildren; Kristin (Brian) Hermsen, Ryan (Kim) Sporrer, Brent Sporrer, Rusty Arthur, Brady (Melissa) Arthur, Joey (Ashley Stuffen) Arthur, Erin (Charlie Grossenburg) Engel, Lance Engel, Landon Engel and Luke Engel, great grandchildren; Jakob Hermsen, Wyatt Hermsen, Allie Hermsen, Hailey Sporrer and Lonnie Sporrer, one brother Jack (Lydia) Earll, cherished nieces and nephews, brothers and sister-in-laws and a host of friends and relatives.

Her family who have gone before; parents Floyd and Minnie, husband John, brothers; Clarence, Floyd, Harold, Orville and her sister Elizabeth, and other brother and sisters in law.
