R. Darlene Edwards (Oswalt), 81, of Washington, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in her daughter's home surrounded by family following a battle with cancer.
Darlene was born Feb. 3, 1940, in Ollie, Iowa , to Darel and Floy Oswalt.
She attended school in Tyrone, Keota and Richland. She married Melvin D. Popejoy at the age of 16. and they had four children together. They later divorced and Darlene briefly married John Kelley. She later married Eddie Edwards of Brighton and they remained close friends after their divorce.
Darlene worked for several employers through her years, some of her favorites being IAAP, Washington County Hospitals, Veterans Hospital, Crane Company, Amana Refrigeration, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the President's Club with several achievements in sales for Mast Markets.
Darlene is survived by a sister, Ethel Moothart of Washington: a brother, Gary (Roberta) Oswalt of Richland: four children, Mitchell (Cindy) Popejoy of Marshfield, Mo., Mitzie Popejoy of Iowa City, Mathew (Brenda) Popejoy of Blairstown and Marla (Bob) Adler of Washington: eight grandkids and 14 greaat-grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and on sister, Voilet Shonkweiler.
