Harvey and Elizabeth J. (Broaddus) Berry married on 2-19-1833 in Madison County, Kentucky. Around 10 years later they migrated to Boone County, Mo. where other family members on both sides had moved to. In 1848 Elizabeth passed away and left Harvey with six children. In 1850 Harvey and his oldest son James Edwin Berry left for the gold fields in California where two of his brothers-in-law were, William Broaddus, Elizabeth's brother & Henry Wilkerson, husband of Elizabeth's sister Susan. Later James wrote that his father has passed away in 1851 near Placerville, California. At present we do not know who took their other children in but from James' letter of 1851 it appears they returned with or to someone in Kentucky. Most of the children are buried in Lexington Cemetery in Fayette County, Ky, which adjoins Madison County, Ky. from which the family started.
