Carrie L. Perkins, 77, of Winchester, Kansas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, December 13, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carrie was born in rural Winchester on April 12, 1944, the daughter of Robert and Emma Allen. She graduated from Winchester High School in 1962, where she played basketball and performed in school plays. Carrie married on July 14, 1962. Ten years later, the couple purchased the property where Carrie was born. They lived there for nearly 50 years before her passing, spending the past few months surrounded by loving family and friends.
Carrie worked for more than 35 years in banking as both a cashier and bookkeeper in Easton and Leavenworth before retiring from Exchange Bank and Trust in 2010. After retirement, Carrie became passionate about quilting. She joined the Kansa Prairie Quilters group and enjoyed taking quilt trips with her sister Betty and showing quilts at the annual Quilt Club Show in Oskaloosa. She was also active with the County Line Unit and American Baptist Women, as well as the Kid's Ministry and Senior Adult Ministry of First Baptist Church of McLouth. Carrie enjoyed serving as president of the Winchester High School alumni group on many occasions, traveling coast to coast with her grandchildren, and following Kansas Jayhawks basketball.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, as well as two brothers, Bobbie Lee and Dale Allen, and two sisters, Emma Alice Collins and Ruby O'Grady. She is survived by her husband; two sons, three grandchildren, sisters, and one brother; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021, at First Baptist Church of McLouth in McLouth, Kansas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the church in McLouth, burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Leavenworth.
