Morristown Gazette, Wed., 19 Jan 1898:

"Death of Hon. R. C.[sic] Moore.

Hon. R. C.[sic] Moore, one of the oldest citizens of Rutledge, died on the morning of Jan. 15, after an illness of eight days. He was 85 years of age. Physicians state that his death resulted from old age and pneumonia fever. His recovery was not expected from the first yet his death will be a grief to hundreds of his acquaintances in that county. He was a native of Grainger county, and had been one of the most prominent public men of that section. He had filled with ability a number of county offices, and was one of the most active church members of Rutledge. An aged wife and several married children are left to mourn his loss. Mr. Moore was an uncle of Hon. W. S. Dickson, of this city."
