Jo Ann Alvey
St. George, Utah

Jo Ann Alvey was born January 7, 1937 in Salina, Utah to parents Golda and Lewellyn Alvey. Her mother passed away when she was just three years old. She and her sister, Louie, lived with their beloved grandparents until her father remarried. They were raised by their mother, Ida and their father, Lew along with four siblings in the following years: Erlene, Marie, Janine and Kelly.

Jo Ann lived her life as a true disciple of Jesus Christ and was a blessing to everyone who had the good fortune to cross her path.

She graduated from Richfield High School and moved to Los Angeles in 1958 after receiving her education and got her license in California to work in the beauty industry. She was a successful businesswoman, owning several Vanity Faire salons in fashionable Brentwood and Santa Monica, California. She retired in 1995 and moved to St. George, Utah in 2005.

Jo Ann lived a life of service, helping immigrants earn citizenship, assisting the elderly and coming to the rescue of anyone in need. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and gave generously of her time and resources serving others in Santa Monica, Los Angeles and St. George.

Jo Ann passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 9, 2021 in St. George, surrounded by loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Erlene Crowther. She is survived by three of her sisters: Louie Keeney, Marie Carter and Janine Astle; her brother, Kelly Alvey; 21 nieces and nephews; and many more grandnieces and grandnephews. Many who knew and loved her regarded her as their second mother or grandmother.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sigurd Ward Chapel. There will be no public visitation/viewing. Burial will be in the Sigurd Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
