Meriden - Robert Bell, 100, beloved husband of the late Doris (Hale) Bell, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Meriden Center. Born on March 16, 1921 in Totonto, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Frederick and Maude ( Hardcastle) Bell. In 1926 at the age of five, Bob became a US citizen when his family relocated to Meriden. He was a graduate of Meriden High School, Class of 1939, Bob worked at Pratt & Whitney in North Haven from where he retired in 1983 after 27 years of service. Upon his retirement, he had many part time jobs including driving small box trucks, painting houses and driving friends to and from the airport. He loved to drive. Mr. Bell is survived by his two daughters: Betty Wilson and her partner Joe Emond, Susan Purcell, his living caretaker for the past years, all of Meriden; seven grandchildren: Kim (Eddie) Hidalgo, Wendy Gaynor, Robert (Ito Issam) Purcell, Michael (Carrie) Purcell, Bethany (Glenn) Root, Jennifer (Garrick) Yanosky, Jay (Carri) Wilson; thirteen great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers: George, Fred and Arthur Bell; son in law, James Wilson; very dear friend, Doris Burgess and five nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Robert's daughter, Susan, for her love and compassion as caregiver. Also, the members of the Center Congregational Church and the Meriden Senior Center for both arranging drive by parades in honor of Bob's 100th birthday. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, December 15th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and attend his funeral service at 6:30 p.m. at the Meriden Memorial Funeral Home, 450 Broad St. Facial masks and social distancing will be required.
