Sy was born October 10, 1923 in Kanosh, Utah to Brigham Young Kimball and Mary Rebecca Young. He peacefully joined his departed wife, Betty; their son, Scott and great granddaughter, Rylee Ann, December 5, 2021 in Balboa Island California. He is also preceded in death by three sisters; June, Dorothy, Reba, and his brother, Craig. He is survived by three children, Sandi (Steve) Garrett, Kirt (Julie) Kimball and Jeff (Tracy) Kimball and a sister, Carol Warner.
Sy was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was an exemplary husband, father, and grandfather. Sy and Betty enjoyed an ideal marriage; a true and eternal partnership. Their example of love and devotion has been remarkably powerful to their posterity.
Sy leaves a legacy of Christ-like service to others. He was always generous, positive, encouraging and kind, exhibiting true charity with others. A gifted athlete he attended BYU for a period on a football scholarship before volunteering to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. His philanthropy to his beloved BYU benefits many individuals and the athletic department in a manner that will go forward without end. The family expresses special appreciation and thanks to Mary Ellen King for her care and companionship with Sy over several years.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Corona del Mar Ward, 2150 Bonita Canyon Drive, Newport Beach California. Viewing 12:00 - 1:30 PM; Funeral service 2:00 PM Saturday December 11, 2021. Interment service Kanosh, Utah Cemetery 12:00 PM Monday December 20, 2021.
In lieu of flowers the family invites you to donate to the BYU Athletic Department in Sy's name. Proceeds to go to the Coaches Circle Endowment, just one of Sy's many legacies. give.byu.edu
