Mary Ann Varanko passed away Thursday evening December 2, 2021 at Westminster Village, Dover, Del. where she lived since 2018.
Mary Ann was born April 11, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Bernard and Katherine Morman. She moved with her family to Wilmington, Del. and then to Clayton, Del. where she graduated from Smyrna High School in 1955. She attended Valparaiso University in Indiana and later Wesley College in Dover from which she graduated in 1989.
She enjoyed a varied career as a Lab Technician at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, Md. and at Kent General Hospital in Dover. Later she worked in the office of Dr. Robert C. Donlick in Clayton, the LaMotte Company in Chestertown, Md., Playtex in Dover, and last at the Delaware State Visitors Center & Museums from which she retired in 2013.
Mary Ann was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Smyrna.
She was an avid reader and was a very active volunteer at the Smyrna Library and served for 10 years on the Kent County Library Advisory Committee. She was also a member of the John Basset Moore/Smyrna High School Alumni Association and an avid supporter of the Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge, the Smyrna Opera House, and several other charitable organizations.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Varanko in 2016; and her daughter, Constance Boyd in 2006.
She is survived by her two siblings, Wilson (Sue) Morman, of Florida, and Katherine Kaczmarski, of Dover, Del.; her three children, James (Jeana Foley) Gaglione of Hyattsville, Md., Michelle (Marvin) Johnson, of Hartly, Del., and Mark (Amanda) Gaglione, of Milford, Del.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 12 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church, 118 W Commerce St., Smyrna, Del., where friends may call at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Hill Cemetery, Smyrna, Del. and a reception will follow in the church hall.
