Daniel C. Allen, 58, of Taylor died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at his residence.


Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens, Texas. Burial to follow at Liberty Cemetery in Bradford, Texas.


Daniel Carroll Allen was born September 8, 1943, to James and Leta (Stovall) Allen in Palestine, Texas.


Daniel had served in the US Air Force while he lived in Palestine. Daniel moved to Taylor in 1989, as the Executive Director for the Texas Water Utilities Association, a 9,200 member training organization based in Austin, Texas, and held the position until his death. Prior to coming to T.W.U.A., he was the Utilities Director for the City of Athens from 1983 to 1989. Mr. Allen was actively involved in the water utilities industry and T.W.U.A., for over 25 years. He was a member of the Associations Twenty-Five Year Club, the Double A Club and a Trustee of the V.M. Ehlers Scholarship Foundation. He also served the Association as President of the Central East Texas District in 1987, President of the Cedar Creek District in 1988, and Chairman of the East Texas Regional School in 1988. Mr. Allen was actively involved with the Texas National Resource Conservation Commission, sitting on numerous committees related to the water utilities industry. He was also an active member of the American Water Works Association-Texas Section and the Water Environment Association of Texas. Mr. Allen taught seminars at Texas A&M University each year. Daniel married Mary Reed on June 11, 1965, in Palestine. He was a member of the Hwy. 95 Church of Christ in Taylor. Mr. Allen was the former minister of Grays Chapel Church of Christ in Boisdarc, Texas.


He was preceded in death by his father, James Allen, and stepfather, Clifton Williams.


Survivors include his wife, Mary Allen of Taylor; daughter, Leigh Ayn Silvey and husband, Chip of Athens; mother, Louise Williams of Rowlett; brothers, Jimmy Allen and wife, Linda of Palestine, Ralph Williams and wife, Gayle of Sugarland, Jim Williams and wife, Vanessa and Cliff Williams; sisters, Linda Knous and husband, Mike of Rowlett and Fran Williams of Hawaii; one granddaughter, Kara Silvey "his pride and joy" and numerous nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers include Eric Knous, Michael Knous, Michael Grasty, Clayton Churchman, Dustin Churchman, Patrick Bailey, Chris Cox and Matthew Hampton. Honorary pallbearers are Dave Cochran, Sam Warrington and past and present officers of the Texas Water Utilities Association.
