Ada Alice Dixon was the daughter of Pheraby Posey & her 1st husband James Dixon. When Ada was 3 years old, her mother Pheraby Posey Dixon remarried to George Washington Smalling on May 7, 1867 in Franklin Parish, Louisiana. Ada Alice Dixon appears on the 1870 Louisiana Census, Franklin Parish, Ward 4, with her mother, siblings & maternal grandmother Elizabeth Posey. Ada Alice Dixon is listed as "Allice Smalling" since the census taker incorrectly put her stepfather's surname down on the census record. A few years later, Ada moved with her family to Pike Co., Arkansas and appears as "Alice Dixson", stepdaughter, on the 1880 Arkansas Census, Pike Co., Antoine & Clark Township.

Ada Alice Dixon married James Allen Walston in 1883 in Pike Co., Arkansas. He was the son of Mary Ann Stanley & James Wheeler Walston from Coosa Co., Alabama.

Ada's gravesite is next to her daughter Cora Walston McDonald in Northfield Macedonia Cemetery (Northfield, Summit Co., Ohio). Ada's grave has no headstone.
