Obituary

Dan Christian Barfuss
Elsinore, Utah

Our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and humble hero, Dan Christian Barfuss, peacefully passed from this life on November 30, 2021 in Richfield. He was born to Roy Barfuss and May Forsberg on May 27, 1936, in a wood framed home in River Heights near Logan, Utah.

Dan lived in various locations in Idaho. In 1955, he graduated from Notis High School. Dan then attended Boise Jr. College, where he played football. The following year he chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was called to serve in the Eastern Central States Mission, entering the MTC on August 22, 1956.

While attending BYU he met the love of his life, Gloria Workman, and they were married in the Manti Utah Temple on July 12, 1963. Their union was blessed with four children: Dan Christian Barfuss Jr., David Charles Barfuss, Dale Craig Barfuss, and the ever beautiful and talented, Doriene Carol Barfuss Watkins.

With an education degree in hand, in January of 1966, he began his lifetime career at San Juan High School, in Blanding, Utah, where he taught US History, US Government, Economics, and early morning seminary. One of the highlights of his career was taking his students to Washington D.C. through the Close Up program. He retired in May of 1999 to care for his sweetheart, Gloria. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2020.

In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Dad served faithfully in many Church callings. He loved his Heavenly Father and Savior with all his heart, which radiated in the way he loved and served others.

Dan is survived by his children: Dan Christian "Chris" (Amy) Barfuss Jr., David Charles (Sandy) Barfuss, Dale Craig (Marie) Barfuss, Doriene Carol (Carl) Watkins; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and his siblings: LaRee Barfuss Love, George Barfuss, and Carl Barfuss.

Dan is also preceded in death by his parents: Roy Barfuss and May Forsberg Barfuss; and his siblings: Dona Barfuss Moses, and Val Barfuss.
