Alma "Betty Gay" Burnett Coghill, of Buffalo Junction, VA, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the age of 90. She was born in Mecklenburg County on December 27, 1930 to the late James Richard Burnett, Sr. and the late Fannie Belle Gold Burnett. Betty Gay retired from management of Halifax Regional Hospital, after 40 years of service. She was a member of Gospel Baptist Tabernacle.
Betty Gay is survived by her sons, Eddie B. Coghill and wife, Sandra, of Roxboro and John M. Coghill and wife, Connie, of Buffalo Junction; daughter-in-law, Judy P. Coghill as well as 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bailey Junior Coghill and Rev. Victor H. Coghill; sons, James Bailey "J.B." Coghill and Terry Coghill; brothers, Lawrence W. "Jack" Burnett, Henry H. Burnett, Robert E. "Dick" Burnett, John B. "Ben" Burnett and James R. "Hoat" Burnett, Jr. and sisters, Lillian Burnett, Mildred B. "Cindy" Arrington, Frances B. Maddox, Virginia B. Farrish and Evelyn B. Murray.
A private graveside service will be held at Gravel Hill Cemetery. The Reverend Rodney Barwick will officiate the service.
