Joseph H. Abati, 89, of Oakmont, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at UPMC St. Margaret, Aspinwall. He was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Montour, to the late Michael and Rosalia (DeSalvo) Abati, and was also preceded in death by his wife, T. Elvira (Torkeo) Abati, in 2001; two brothers, William and Raymond Abati; and two sisters, Rose Sack and Agnes Zampogna. He worked in the C.U. Department at Alcoa for 35 years, retiring in 1971. He was a proud World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, Holy Name Society, Eagles and Hunter & Fisherman's Club, New Kensington, Moose in Lower Burrell, Arnold American Legion, Alcoa 25 Year Club and the Alcoa Retirees. He is survived by a son, Joseph B. (Debra) Abati, of Oakmont; a daughter, Cynthia P. Abati, of Bellevue; a brother, Anthony Abati, of Conneaut; two sisters, Mary P. Abati, of New Kensington, and Edith Lacey, of Arizona; two grandchildren, Nicole Giermanski and Andrew Clemons; a great-grandson and little buddy, Andrew Giermanski; also many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the GIUNTA-BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME INC., 1509 Fifth Ave., Arnold. Prayers of transfer will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, followed by a Christian funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
