Hopper grew up in Thackerville and graduated from the Thackerville High School in 1950. On July 31, 1951, he joined the United States Navy and was enlisted during Korean and Vietnam conflicts before retiring on August 12, 1970. Hopper married his bride of 63 years, Barbara Joan Martin on February 15, 1958 in Great Lakes, IL. They raised their children in several states during their time of military service. Hopper continued his education after his time in the service at Modesto Junior College and Stanislaus State College. He was a lifetime member of the National Association For Uniformed Services, American Bowling Congress, Love County Historical Society, and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. After his retirement, Hopper found much enjoyment in his bowling hobby, his gardening, and sharing the fruits of his gardens with others. Even greater enjoyment was found in each visit he had from those grands!
