A son of Andrew Jackson & Leotta Bell (Snipes) Shell of Bonanza, Floyd County, KY.

He married Lillie B. May on Jan. 9, 1915 in Eubank, Pulaski County, Ky.

Grandpa Willie's daughter Violet told me his middle name was Henderson.

Newspaper report of Grandpa Willie's death is in the caption of his and Grandma's photo.

William H. Shell, 54, truck driver of Casstown, Ohio, near Troy, was killed instantly at 3:55 Monday afternoon when he was struck by an eastbound N.& W. freight train two miles west of Coal Grove.

Deputy Sheriff Jess Willis and Ray Smith, N.& W. detective, who investigated, said Shell was returning from Wheeling W.Va., where he had taken a load of feed and was on the way back home with a load of coal.

Traveling west on U.S. 52 he parked his truck in the driveway of the roadside park, on the right hand side of the highway, two miles east of Coal Grove.

The officers said he had apparently crossed the highway and the westbound N.& W. track on foot and was struck as he stepped on the eastbound track.

His head and chest were crushed and his hip broken. Dr. Justin Payne, acting as coroner in the absence of Dr. J.W. Payne, held the victim's death was accidental.

The train was in charge of H. Billups, engineer, and Mose Martin, conductor, both of Portsmouth.

The investigating officers were unable to determine why the victim of the accident was crossing the tracks or where he was going.

Mr. Shell was born June 21, 1896 at Prestonsburg, Ky., and was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Leotta Bell Snipes Shell. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie May Shell, Casstown, Ohio; his mother, of Bonanza, Ky., 5 children, and nine brothers and sisters.

The body was taken to the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home. Later today the body was removed to the Irwin Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at Troy, Thursday afternoon with burial at Honeycreek Cemetery near Troy, Ohio.
