CARL W. ALEXANDER

78, of 3130 Erter Drive, died January 9,1992, in Mercy Medical Center. He was a resident of Springfield for the past 40 years. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 8, 1913, and was one of the first students to enter the nationally known Marsh Foundation at Van Wert, Ohio when that institution opened in 1924. Following graduation from there and Van Wert High School in 1930, he pursed a prominent musical career as a trombonist during the "Big Band" era of the 1930's, performing with well-known dance bands of that period, including radio and theater engagements.

During the late thirties, he was engaged in the retail music field, owning and operating music stores. He entered employment with the International Harvester Company in 1941, and retired from that firm on June 1, 1974, as United Relations Manager of the Springfield plants. He served six years as a board member of the Alcohol and Drug Council of Clark County, three years as secretary for the agency. He was a charter member and active in the creation of the Springfield International Harvester Retired Management Group, serving as President and several years on the board. He was a lifetime member of the Springfield Personnel Association.

His wife, Geraldine, preceded him in death in November of 1964
There was no viewing services. Mr. Alexander's body was donated to the Wright State Medical School. A memorial service was held January 11, 1992 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church.
