Emma Jeanette (Hinkle) Bales

Obituary of Emma Jeanette (Hinkle) Bales
Jeanette Hinkle Bales, age 97, of East Ridge, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was a faithful servant to the Lord, devoted wife, nurturing mother and loving grandmother and great grandmother. One of her greatest joys was being involved in the activities and lives of her family.

Jeanette was a native of Lee County, Virginia and the daughter of the late Peter Roscoe and Cora Elizabeth Orr Hinkle. She was a graduate of Radford University, Radford, Virginia and taught in the Virginia School System. Following this, she was Extension Agent for Henry County, Virginia. She was a member of several professional associations including Chattanooga Area Home Economists. She was a member of the Order of Eastern star, Contact telephone ministry, Opti-Mrs. Club, and the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge. Jeanette in 1959 began teaching at East Ridge Jr. /Sr. High School from which she retired after 25 years. Jeanette was an active member of Brainerd United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate Gene of 70 years; and her daughter-in-law, Jan Bales.

Jeanette is survived by two children, Judge David E. Bales, and Joy Bales (David) Ludwig both of Signal Mountain; four grandchildren, Chris G. Bales, Jennifer Ludwig (Patrick) Stone, Stephanie Ludwig (Shawn) Devine and Kristin McBride (Scott) Allen; seven great grandchildren, Hamilton and Hutton Bales, Alex Allen, Rylan and Dylan Stone, Wesley and Nicholas Devine; best friend who she considered a sister, Jo Woods; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 2:15 pm on Saturday, November 27, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Jeanette's Life will follow at 2:30 pm on Saturday at the North Chapel with Reverend Stephen Overall officiating. Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
