Josie Bishop, Wife of Herbert Hall Bishop and Daughter of Harvey Howard and Harriet Margaret (Stevens) Whitehill.

Josie, known as "RADIUM QUEEN OF THE MOJAVE" appeared in the August 9, 1937 issue of TIME Magazine, page 22 and the August 30, 1937 issue of LIFE Magazine, pages 28 & 29. Josie appeared on Robert Ripley's BELIEVE IT OR NOT radio program broadcast from New York City November 1, 1940. She appeared in the MARCH OF PROGRESS, January 1946, pgs 1 through 4, as well as WHO'S WHO ON THE PACIFIC COAST, 1947, V1,pg 157 and WHO'S WHO IN KERN COUNTY, 1941 pgs 24 & 25. She was featured in many other magazines and newspaper articles.

Josie's mining claim and grave site were recognized by the State of California, State Historical Resources Commission as POINT OF HISTORICAL INTEREST "JOSIE BISHOP MINING CLAIM SITE KER-010" on November 4, 1994.

A State of California, Point of Historical Interest Monument at BLM's Jawbone Station on Highway 14 North of Mojave, CA, dedicated October 11, 1998. The Monument was furnished and dedicated by THE ANCIENT AND HONORABLE ORDER OF E CLAMPUS VITUS.
