James Smither Mackey, 74, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, died on Thursday, the 18th day of November, 2021, at Clark Memorial in Jeffersonville. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the son of the late James and Edna Belle Smither Mackey. He was a former physics teacher, retiring from Jennings County High School in North Vernon, Indiana. A graduate of the University of Alabama, he was a fan of the Crimson Tide, and model railroads and travel were among his hobbies.
His survivors include his wife of over fifty-two years, Lucy Easley Mackey of Jeffersonville, Indiana; his daughter, Amanda Belle Mackey Hettinger and her husband, Brian, of Louisville; his son, James Craig Mackey and his wife, Cindy, of Memphis, Indiana; and his four grandsons, Patrick Easley Hettinger, Liam Mackey, David Mackey, and Paul Mackey.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, the 26th day of November, 2021, at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery.
