Shirley Jean Gross passed away in Cupertino, CA at the age of 92 with her family at her side on June 14, 2021.
Shirley was born in Shelby, Iowa to her parents Louise and Glen Henderson. She was a graduate of Avoca High School in Avoca, Iowa. Predeceased by her loving husband, Don, her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Edward Honz and niece, Eileen Honz. [Surviving relatives omitted for privacy].
Shirley was a stay-at-home mom and was always involved with her children's activities. During these years, she worked part-time for the Los Angeles Board of Education in several school office settings. She was active in the Republican Women's Club, volunteered at a local hospital and continued to be active in her church until the time of her death. In her early 40's, Shirley received her AA Degree from De Anza College.
Writing was always a passion of hers and in her early 80's, she wrote her memoir and self-published a short story about a special cat named Boo who belonged to her daughter Kay and son-in-law Larry. In addition, she was an active Stephen Minister.
She and Don were able to travel extensively in the United States attending Masonic events. Shirley was also a member of The Order of Eastern Star. They also enjoyed travel to Europe and several cruises during their 55 years of marriage.
