Stephen Carlos Dana, our amazing dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, was reunited with the love of his life, Karolyn Sue Tyler, after a two-week battle with COVID. He died peacefully at the age of 77 on November 18th, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.
Steve was born December 15, 1943, in Mesa, Arizona, to Harvey and Greta Dana. He was the second of six children and loved his siblings: Michael, Greta Ann, Duane, Mark, and Matt. He grew up on Alma School Road and was so proud to be a Mesa High Jackrabbit, where he was Student Body President in 1961. After graduating high school, he served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Eastern States Mission. As the Assistant to the Mission President, he preached the gospel at the 1964 World's Fair in New York City.
After his mission, he attended Arizona State University, where he met his brown-eyed girl, Karolyn, at an ASU dance. They married in 1966 and were sealed for time and all eternity on September 27th in the Mesa LDS Temple. They enjoyed 51 incredible years together until his sweet wife passed away in 2017. He spent the last 4 years making new friends at singles' dances and activities, passing the time until he could dance again with his beautiful bride. We are comforted knowing that they are reunited forever.
Family was everything to him, and he bragged about each of his 9 children and their spouses: Kevin (Carlos), Stacy Packard (Shawn), Todd, Shelly Thomas (Mark), Troy (Courtney), Trent (Danielle), Kendra Hales (Ryan), Jarin (Taci), and Kortney Keisel (Kurt). He was so proud of his 33 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He lived for family gatherings and was always planning the next event, certain to have an elaborate menu with assignments. His mind was blown when he was introduced to the convenience of Sign-Up Genius. He created a joyful life that included lots of laughter and playfulness, church and community service, parties and family traditions, traveling, dancing, and Mexican food with way too many leftovers.
He endured to the end as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, often sharing his unwavering testimony of the Savior in both word and deed. He will be missed dearly, but we will carry on his family legacy of love and happiness.
